Driving through the beautiful countryside from Iraklion to south Crete, we meet the picturesque Matala village. Matala is a small holiday seaside village with a lovely sandy beach, that combines quiet and relaxing holidays with intense nightlife.

Matala with its sandy beach, the brilliant waters and its caves was chosen in late sixties by the "flowers' children" to become their "paradise on earth". Though not frequented by hippies anymore, Matala, still carries a certain aura of liberty and of "flower power". A walk around the narrow roads of Matala will lead as to Matala View.

Matala View, a family run pension, stands less than 100 meters (110 yd) from the Matala beach (with the caves), it is on the way to the Red Sand beach and very close to Komos beach.
